We The People: Connected Hands Shows Up for South Central L.A. at the Community Resource Fair

July 12, 2026

Today, Connected Hands set up shop at LADC Studios (5955 S Western Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90047) for the We The People Community Resource Fair, a free community event running from 1–4 PM that brought together dozens of Los Angeles nonprofits, city services, and grassroots organizations under one roof — and a whole lot of pop-up tents — to serve the South Central community.

If you missed it, here's what it looked like on the ground, and why events like this matter so much for our mission of connecting men in our community to the resources they need to thrive.

Why We Show Up

At Connected Hands, our work centers on resources and consulting for men — but we know that no one thrives in isolation. Healthcare, jobs, legal support, mental health, and stable housing are the foundation everything else is built on. That's exactly why the We The People Community Resource Fair struck a chord with us: it was built around the same categories we care about most — healthcare, employment resources, legal information, mental health support, housing resources, and more — all in one accessible, welcoming space.

Our Booth: We Got The Juice

Our table was set up right under the SirReel canopy, tablecloth branded and ready, and our team was on hand all afternoon talking with neighbors about digital literacy, career navigation, and the programs we run for men across the community. Front and center was our "We Got The Juice" campaign, powering futures through digital literacy, alongside our Project M.E.R.N. (Modern Electronic Research and Navigation) cohort materials — because in 2026, digital literacy is just as essential as any other life skill. "Literacy Improves Lives" isn't just a tagline for us; it's the whole point.

We also had voter registration information on hand courtesy of NCNW, because civic participation is another form of empowerment we're proud to support.

A Community, Not Just a Fair

What made today special wasn't just the resources — it was the atmosphere. Walking the lot at LADC Studios felt like a genuine block party for community wellness:

  • NCNW Southern California had a full table going, connecting folks with voter registration and community programs.
  • Los Angeles Job Corps Center was on-site helping people explore career training and employment pathways.
  • St. John's Community Health brought healthcare access information right to the sidewalk.
  • Someone I Love and their video booth created space for real conversations and connection.
  • Made New Foundation rolled up with an interactive trailer offering VR experiences and hands-on engagement for families and kids.
  • A rainbow of oversized patio umbrellas dotted the lot, giving shade and color to a day that was equal parts resource fair and neighborhood gathering.
  • And yes — a food truck kept everyone fed with tacos, burritos, and cold drinks between conversations, plus a balloon arch that gave the whole event a celebratory feel.

Kids ran around with wagons, families stopped table to table, and volunteers in matching shirts made sure no one left without knowing where to find help.

Why Events Like This Matter for South Central L.A.

Access to healthcare, legal aid, mental health support, and housing resources shouldn't require navigating a maze of websites and phone trees. Fairs like We The People bring those services directly into the neighborhood — no appointment, no paperwork barrier, no cost. For organizations like Connected Hands, it's also a chance to meet people exactly where they are and let them know that support exists specifically for men in our community who are looking to build stability, skills, and connection.

Community resource fairs like this one are part of a larger network of care happening across South Central Los Angeles, powered by organizations including Unite A Nation, Alzheimer's Los Angeles, PTHD Strictly Healing, Project Return Peer Support Network, TC Leimert, PV Jobs, LA Metro, and 2nd Call — all working together toward the same goal: a stronger, better-resourced community.

If you stopped by our table today, thank you for the conversation. And if you missed us, Connected Hands is still here, still working, and still committed to bringing digital literacy, career resources, and consulting support to men across Los Angeles year-round.
